Overview

The situation

Kangrooo International Inc. needed a platform that solved a fragmented problem: finding and booking workspaces or event venues was slow, inconsistent, and spread across emails, phone calls, and disconnected listing sites. They envisioned a single, unified marketplace — one where renters could discover and book instantly, and hosts could list, manage, and earn from their spaces without operational overhead.

Challenge

What we had to solve

The core challenge was building a true dual-role platform where two completely different user experiences — renter and host — had to coexist within the same product without friction. Hosts needed listing management, booking controls, earnings dashboards, and add-on service configuration. Renters needed advanced search, flexible booking durations, quality-assured listings, and secure payments. Both flows had to feel like separate apps while sharing the same underlying infrastructure.

Case Study

How we built it

01Weeks 1–3

Discovery & Product Architecture

We ran discovery sessions with both sides of the marketplace — prospective hosts and renters — mapping their workflows, blockers, and expectations. The two-role architecture was defined early: shared auth with role-based routing, separate dashboards, and a unified booking engine sitting between them. Wireframes and prototypes were validated before a single line of code was written.

02Weeks 4–7

Backend & Database Architecture

We built the Node.js and Express backend with MongoDB as the primary data store, designing the schema to handle multi-tenant data isolation between host and renter accounts. The listings engine supported flexible space types, amenity configurations, availability calendars, pricing tiers, and add-on services. RESTful APIs were documented and versioned from the outset to support both the web and mobile clients simultaneously.

03Weeks 8–12

Web Application — React Frontend

The React web app was built with two distinct UX flows — a discovery-first renter experience with advanced filtering by location, price, amenities, size, and availability, and a host dashboard for managing listings, incoming bookings, earnings, and guest communications. Every screen was designed with a clean, user-friendly interface and tested iteratively against real user feedback throughout each sprint.

04Weeks 13–17

Mobile Apps — React Native

Using React Native, we built the iOS and Android apps sharing the same codebase as the web frontend where possible — accelerating delivery without sacrificing performance. The mobile experience prioritised quick space discovery, one-tap booking, and real-time booking status updates. Google Places integration powered location-aware search and host listing creation. Both apps were submitted and approved on the App Store and Google Play.

05Weeks 18–20

Payments, Testing & Launch

Secure payment processing was integrated with full transaction history for both hosts and renters. A systematic testing phase covered unit, integration, and end-to-end tests across web and mobile before release. We followed Agile methodology throughout — with sprint reviews, QA cycles, and staged rollouts — delivering a stable v1.0 across all three platforms simultaneously.
