Overview
The situation
Hazelwood Construction Services Inc. has been delivering large-scale civil works for over 30 years — underground utilities, hydroelectric systems, penstock installations, and mission-critical municipal infrastructure. Their reputation was built on the ground, project by project. But their digital presence hadn't kept pace. They needed a website that matched the scale of their work, unified their diverse service lines into a coherent story, and gave prospective public-sector and industrial clients the confidence to reach out.
Challenge
What we had to solve
Heavy civil construction is a high-trust, long-cycle industry where procurement decisions involve multiple stakeholders and significant due diligence. The challenge was taking an extremely broad and technical set of capabilities — excavation, design-build, run-of-river hydro, municipal works — and presenting them in a way that felt clear and navigable without dumbing anything down. The site had to communicate both scale and reliability to clients who needed to be absolutely certain before picking up the phone.

Case Study
How we built it
Discovery & Service Line Mapping
We ran focused discovery workshops with the Hazelwood team to map their full range of service lines, differentiators, and the types of clients they most wanted to attract. With over 30 years of project history to draw from, the priority was identifying which capabilities to lead with and how to structure the navigation so visitors could quickly find what was relevant to their specific project type.
UI/UX Design & Figma Prototyping
Using Figma, we designed a strong, industrial visual identity for the site — bold typography, a clean layout system, and a project gallery that let the work speak for itself. The UI was deliberately built to communicate strength and reliability at a glance, with a content hierarchy that guided visitors from capability overview down to specific service detail and contact. Wireframes and prototypes were signed off before development began.
WordPress Development & Content
The site was built on WordPress with a custom theme, fully responsive across all devices. Core service pages — covering excavation, design-build, hydroelectric, and municipal works — were structured with clear headings, plain-language descriptions, and project references that reinforced credibility at every scroll. A project gallery was built to showcase completed works visually, and calls-to-action for lead capture were placed at every relevant touchpoint.
QA, SEO & Launch
A thorough QA pass covered cross-device rendering, page speed, navigation flow, and form submission. SEO fundamentals were applied across all service pages — targeting the search terms that infrastructure owners and contractors actually use when evaluating vendors. The site launched on day 14, on schedule, with no critical issues.

We've been building major infrastructure for over 30 years but our website never reflected that. Now when a procurement team looks us up, the site does the work — it shows exactly who we are and what we're capable of before we've said a word.
